Hazardous Materials Manager-in-Training (HMMT) Program

The Hazardous Materials Manager-in-Training (HMMT) is a designation designed to introduce young professionals into the CHMM program. Candidates with a BS/BA degree, but little or no experience, should consider this designation, which is designed for those entering the hazardous materials workforce.

HMMT BENEFITS

  • Take the science and basic technology portions of the CHMM examination while those topics are still fresh from your college studies.
  • Be recognized as a young professional who is serious about a career in hazardous materials management.
  • Enhance your employability.
  • Network with other professionals, both young and experienced, through programs of the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (AHMP).

PREREQUISITES

The HMMT candidate must:

  • Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in hazardous materials management or a related discipline,
  • Have less than three years of qualifying experience, and
  • Pass an examination focusing on the scientific principles involved in hazardous materials management.

Undergraduate students may sit for the exam during the final semester of their senior year; however, the designation will not be awarded until the baccalaureate degree is received and verified by official transcript.

The HMMT designation shall be valid for five years, and the expiration dates shall be indicated on the certificates issued. Within that time, it is expected that the HMMT will qualify for and take the CHMM examination.

This program which enables young professionals to:

  • Sit for the HMMT examination at any time between the final semester of their senior year of undergraduate study and up the point of having achieved three years of experience.
  • Take just the science and basic technology portions of the CHMM examination while those topics are fresh, and then be exempted from taking those parts of the exam when they qualify to take the CHMM examination.

THE EXAMINATION

Candidates meeting the prerequisites above, are then eligible to sit for a multiple-choice examination professionally developed and administered by IHMM. Go to Exam Content for a detailed blueprint of the examination.
