Institute of Hazardous Materials Management & Hazardous Materials Society

A collaborative culture is important for every business but is especially important for our hazardous materials, dangerous goods, environment, health and safety communities of practice. IHMM credentialed professionals are at the top 1% of their professions and their reach is global. We are at the forefront of environmental protection, health, and safety and this is where collaborating with the best people in their fields, always willing to help one another, lessens the stress of our jobs and where we strive as a team to make a difference of which we are proud.

Hazardous Materials Society

The Hazardous Materials Society was created by the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management as a separate, 501[c][3] non-profit organization with its own Board. No one who participates in any IHMM credential committee also participates in an HMS activity, the two are kept strictly separate as HMS respects the ANSI accredited credentials of IHMM.

HMS is established to provide excellence in education, training, advocacy, information services, meetings and networking in the fields of hazardous materials management, health and safety to raise the level of performance and professionalism among those individuals whose services to their communities create a safer and more sustainable environment.

Slide Founded in 1984, the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM), a not-for-profit organization, has been protecting the environment and the public’s health, safety, and security through the creation of credentials recognizing professionals who have demonstrated a high level of knowledge, expertise, and excellence in the management of hazardous materials, transportation of dangerous goods, environmental protection, health and safety. Founded in 1984… Slide Over 17,000 homeland security, environmental protection, engineering, health sciences, transportation, and public safety professionals have earned IHMM’s accredited Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM®) credential. IHMM also administers the Certified Hazardous Materials Practitioner (CHMP®), the Certified Dangerous Goods Professional (CDGP®), and the Certified Dangerous Goods Trainer (CDGT®) credentials. IHMM’s Top 1% Credentials… Slide Companies and government value the professionals who proactively seek opportunities to develop their skills and expertise.  One of the best ways for individuals to demonstrate their commitment to career growth is by pursuing IHMM certifications.
Earning IHMM Credentials provide many benefits, including improved career prospects and enhanced earning power. Survey results indicate that the median annual base salary of individuals holding a credential from IHMM - is $100,000, about 20 percent greater than the median annual base salary of survey respondents who held no certification; $83,000.  Further, when years of experience are taken into account, salaries are approximately 10 percent higher for IHMM certificate holders with 5 to 14 years’ experience than a professional with the same experience not holding a credential.
Employers Value IHMM Credentials…
Slide The average student spends thousands of dollars to achieve something that 1.5 million other students also have. While undeniably valuable, you need more than a Bachelor’s degree in order to clearly distinguish yourself from everyone else in a highly competitive job market.

That’s where an IHMM professional certification becomes so valuable to you.
For Students…

The Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM) offers the hazardous materials, dangerous goods, environment, health, and safety premier accredited professional credentials—credentials that recognize your expertise and open up new possibilities for you to make a significant impact on public health and safety, the environment, your community, and your country. Slide IHMM is pleased to announce that the American National Standards Institute [ANSI] has approved Kryterion Remotely Proctored Exams for IHMM’s CHMM, CHMP, and CDGP exams. IHMM has been using the Kryterion Remotely Proctored Exams for the CSHM and CSMP exams since April of this year.

About 60% of Kryterion in-person testing centers have reopened. If you prefer the comfort and convenience of taking your exam from your home or office instead of at a Kryterion center, IHMM is ready to enroll you in a remotely proctored examination.

Please contact either Kortney Tunstall at ktunstall@ihmm.org for the CHMM, CHMP, or CDGP exams or Kaylene Cagle at kcagle@ihmm.org for the CSHM or CSMP exams.
