IHMM Remotely Proctored Exams Available Now
IHMM is pleased to announce that the American National Standards Institute [ANSI] has approved Kryterion Remotely Proctored Exams for IHMM’s CHMM, CHMP, and CDGP exams. IHMM has been using the Kryterion Remotely Proctored Exams for the CSHM and CSMP exams since April of this year.
About 60% of Kryterion in-person testing centers have reopened. If you prefer the comfort and convenience of taking your exam from your home or office instead of at a Kryterion center, IHMM is ready to enroll you in a remotely proctored examination.
Please contact either Kortney Tunstall at [email protected] for the CHMM, CHMP, or CDGP exams or Kaylene Cagle at [email protected] for the CSHM or CSMP exams.

IHMM & HMS Coronavirus Resources
In February of 2020, the World Health Organization’s director-general has declared a public health emergency of international concern over the ongoing outbreak of respiratory illness caused by a novel coronavirus. IHMM and HMS’s first concern is with the safety and health of all of us; our staff and families, colleagues, certificants, and members. We will update this page regularly as credible, authoritative information is available. See: https://ihmm.org/coronavirus-resources/

IHMM UPDATES
HMS Education and Training
Hazardous Materials Society now has 15,779 education and training programs on its website https://hazmatsociety.org/education-training/ with more coming every week. Certificants will note that most of these programs carry a CMP value, making it easier to know in advance what to expect. The HMS Education and Training platform also provides a wide variety of courses for professional development across all of IHMM’s credentials – and more are being developed by the HMS Education and Training Committee.
This is the center of education and training for IHMM certificants and prospective certificants. Among these more than 14.000 programs are webinars delivered online and virtually all carry IHMM CMPs values with them for your annual / 5-year CMP planning. CSHM and CSMP – Become a Mentor
IHMM’s Collaboration platform provides CHMM’s opportunity to become mentors to Student CHMMs. IHMM’s Student CHMM pilot program involves students from Columbia Southern University, where we already have 50 applicants, as well as Kennesaw State University that is kicking off their participation in the pilot program this fall.
Mentors may decide how many mentees they are willing to work with, for how long, and how they wish to be engaged. Mentors decide how many hours per week or month they can commit to becoming mentors.
This is a unique opportunity for CHMMs to work with students still in school and advise them on their courses of study as well as plan for their future as they graduate and look for opportunities in the job market toward a path to one day becoming a CHMM themselves.
IHMM is now planning on how we can connect CSHMs with ASHMs and enable CSHMs to mentor ASHMs as they work toward taking their CSHM exam. Before we launch the program we need to know if there are CSHMs that would volunteer to become mentors.
If this idea interests you as a CSHM, and becoming a mentor to ASHMs is something you would consider doing, please send an email to Kaylene at [email protected] and let us know.

IHMM credentialed professionals are at the top 1% of their professions and their reach is global. We are at the forefront of environmental protection, health, and safety and this is where collaborating with the best people in their fields, always willing to help one another, lessens the stress of our jobs and where we strive as a team to make a difference of which we are proud.
In October HMS added the following new communities:
- HMS Academia Community
- HMS Consultants Community

We opened COLLABORATION to enable thousands of certificants and supporters to collaborate together. You can collaborate here> https://community.ihmm.org/home
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has published additional frequently asked questions and answers (FAQs) regarding the need to report employees’ in-patient hospitalizations and fatalities resulting from work-related cases of the coronavirus.
OSHA’s new FAQs provide information to help employers apply the agency’s existing injury and illness recording and reporting requirements to the coronavirus. In particular, the FAQs provide guidance on how to calculate reporting deadlines for in-patient hospitalizations and fatalities, and clarify the meaning of the term “incident” as it relates to work-related coronavirus in-patient hospitalizations and fatalities. These FAQs are the latest effort by OSHA to provide employers and employees with more information about how it will enforce its standards and regulations during the pandemic. OSHA has also previously published revised enforcement guidance detailing how OSHA will enforce the recordkeeping requirements of 29 CFR 1904 for employee coronavirus illnesses for all employers.
Visit OSHA’s coronavirus webpage frequently for updates. For further information about the coronavirus, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
IHMM GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
Updating COVID-19 Relief Legislation In Congress
With a flurry of what appeared to be activity between the White House and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi last week on trying to reach another deal on COVID-19 relief legislation, the week ended with no such deal. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer announced on Friday that there would be no votes in the House this week [October 12-16]. This week the Senate turns its attention to the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, effectively taking the Senate out of floor activity until Judge Barrett is voted out of the Judiciary Committee for floor action around October 27-29th. With the election being held the week after, there is very little likelihood that there would be another COVID-19 relief bill before the November 3rd election.

EEOC Issues Conciliation Proposal. This week the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) issued a proposed rule to provide “greater clarity to the conciliation process by enhance[ing] the effectiveness of the process [to] ensure that the Commission meets its statutory obligations.” The proposed amendments to the EEOC’s conciliation procedures require the Commission to provide to a respondent:
- “a summary of the facts and non-privileged information that the Commission relied on in its reasonable cause finding, and … the criteria that will be used to identify victims from the pool of potential class members”;
- “a summary of the Commission’s legal basis for finding reasonable cause, including … non-privileged information it obtained during the course of its investigation that raised doubt that employment discrimination had occurred”;
- “the basis for any relief sought, including the calculations underlying the initial conciliation proposal”; and
- “identification of a systemic, class, or pattern or practice designation.”
The proposal also gives the respondent “at least 14 calendar days to respond to the initial conciliation proposal from the Commission.” Comments are due on or before November 9, 2020.
OFCCP Releases Diversity Training FAQs. This week the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) released frequently asked questions in response to President Trump’s “Executive Order on Combating Race and Sex Stereotyping.”
Contract Bar Briefing Deadline. October 7, 2020, was the deadline for interested amici to file briefs in the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) case contemplating changes to its “contract bar” doctrine, which prohibits representation elections during the life of a collective bargaining agreement for up to three years.
