Upcoming phase-out deadlines for Class 111 tank cars used in flammable liquids service. Transport Canada (TC) would like to remind Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) stakeholders and registered Tank Car facilities of the upcoming phase-out date of May 1, 2025, for Class 111 tank cars used in Class 3, Flammable Liquids service, in Canada. As per the requirements of TC standard TP14877, Clause 10.5.6, jacketed and unjacketed legacy Class 111 tank cars, as well as jacketed and unjacketed enhanced Class 111 tank cars (also known as jacketed and unjacketed CPC-1232 tank cars) will no longer be permitted to be used to import, offer for transport, handle or transport Class 3, Flammable Liquids as of May 1, 2025. Transport Canada Notice: New editions of CSA B339, B340, B341, B342 are published. The new editions of the following standards have been developed by the Canadian Standards Association’s (CSA) Technical Committee on Cylinders, Spheres, and Tubes for the Transportation of Dangerous Goods and were published in January 2025:

  • CSA B339 “Cylinders, spheres, and tubes for the transportation of dangerous goods”
  • CSA B340 “Selection and use of cylinders, spheres, tubes, and other containers for the transportation of dangerous goods, Class 2”
  • CSA B341 “UN pressure receptacles and multiple-element gas containers for the transport of dangerous goods”
  • CSA B342 “Selection and use of UN pressure receptacles and multiple-element gas containers for the transport of dangerous goods, Class 2”
