IHMM In-Person or Remotely Proctored Exams
The American National Standards Institute [ANSI] has approved Kryterion Remotely Proctored Exams for IHMM’s CHMM, CHMP, and CDGP exams. IHMM has been using the Kryterion Remotely Proctored Exams for the CSHM and CSMP exams since April 2020.
About 72% of Kryterion in-person testing centers have reopened. If you prefer the comfort and convenience of taking your exam from your home or office instead of at a Kryterion center, IHMM is ready to enroll you in a remotely proctored examination.
Please contact either Kortney Tunstall at [email protected] for the CHMM, CHMP, or CDGP exams or Kaylene Cagle at [email protected] for the CSHM or CSMP exams.

IHMM Certificant Recognition
IHMM has completed inserting new credential badges in every certificant’s MYIHMM account. Everyone may access those badges for use in their email signatures, LinkedIn accounts, and other social media and communications media. With a link from your credential badge to the IHMM website [see above] you can not only stand out as an IHMM-certified professional, you can also promote IHMM credentials to others. Right-click on the badge of choice, save as to your computer, then load it to whatever medium you choose.
Throughout our certificant’s MYIHMM accounts are also now placed 10 Year, 20 Year, and 30 Year badges signifying their longevity as an IHMM certified professional.
IHMM has also added Distinguished Diplomates and Fellows of the Institute badges to the appropriate people in the MYIHMM database. These two badges will be accompanied by new lapel pins to be sent to each of those distinguished by holding these designations.

CDC Drops Masking Requirements for Most Healthy Individuals
On February 25, 2022, the Centers for Disease Control updated its mask guidance on February 25, 2022, dropping public indoor mask recommendations for the majority of groups of individuals.
The CDC’s new guidance reflects a shift in the way the agency is analyzing data to determine mitigation strategies. The agency’s goals are to direct efforts toward protecting high-risk individuals and preventing COVID-19 from overwhelming healthcare systems.

IHMM Microcredential Task Force Completing Pandemic Preparedness Blueprint
The IHMM Microcredential Task Force, chaired by Dan Blankfeld, CSHM, https://ihmm.org/microcredential-task-force/ is completing work on its Pandemic Preparedness credential blueprint in time for the March 25th Board meeting to review.
Last September 2021, the Biden Administration announced a $65.3 billion plan to improve the U.S.’s pandemic preparedness strategy in the midst of COVID-19 and as the country readies for any future biological threats.
The White House plans to funnel the $65.3 billion over seven to 10 years to invest in the country’s ability to respond “rapidly and effectively” to future epidemics and pandemics, as the current COVID-19 crisis has disrupted society and killed millions worldwide.
Annual IHMM Excellence in EHS Management Award
Each year IHMM is proud to recognize the outstanding achievements and distinction of the CSHM, CSMP, or ASHM that has made a worthy contribution to the communities of practice and the profession.
This award is usually given at the annual National Safety Council Congress.
Nominations begin in March and end in July. Make your nomination here.
IHMM CSSS-CSSM Committee Completing the New CSSM Blueprint
The IHMM CSSS-CSSM Committee chaired by Mike Howe, CSSM, https://ihmm.org/csss-cssm-committee/ has completed its work on the new CSSM blueprint and released it to all CSSMs for final review prior to being sent to the IHMM Board for its March 25th Board meeting.
The CSSM and CSSS credentials had no blueprints under ISHM, and now both will have fully constructed blueprints, the CSSM being first. The Committee intends on turning to the CSSS credential as soon as the CSSM has been reviewed and approved and examination development is underway.
IHMM Scholarship Committee
The IHMM Scholarship Committee will establish and create procedures necessary to carry out an IHMM scholarship program that is best focused on limiting eligibility to students who are in good academic standing in degree programs currently recognized by the IHMM as approved partner schools. The most logical students to be eligible for such IHMM scholarships would be those students who are in good standing as either a Student CHMM or a Student ASHM (proposed new IHMM designation). Click here for more information on this committee.
Save the Date – Fall Stand-Down
This year’s annual National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls will be held May 2-6. Visit the campaign webpage for updates.
Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 351 of the 1,008 construction fatalities recorded in 2020 (BLS data). Those deaths were preventable. The National Safety Stand-Down raises fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries.

IHMM Recertification Videos
IHMM is pleased to release two YouTube instructional videos about navigating the IHMM recertification process. These step-by-step videos easily enable IHMM certificants to start and complete a recertification application.
While the full recertification cycle is 5 years, IHMM encourages all certificants to start a recertification application and add certification maintenance points as they are earned to make the final submission quick and easy to accomplish.
- Every CSHM and CSMP should start a recertification application now.
- Even if your recertification is years away, starting an application now and adding your accumulated points enables you to see where you are all the time and it makes it very easy when you have to file your application

US Department of Labor announces proposed rule to update powered industrial trucks standard for general industry, construction
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor announced today a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking by the department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration to improve worker safety and health by ensuring the agency’s general industry and construction industry rules reflect current industry practice and state-of-the-art technology.
The proposed rule will update the design and construction requirements for OSHA’s powered industrial trucks standards for general industry and construction, including fork trucks, tractors, platform lift trucks, motorized hand trucks and other specialized industrial trucks powered by an electric motor or an internal combustion engine.
Under the proposed rule, OSHA will update its general industry and construction standards for powered industrial trucks by adding references to the latest design and construction requirements published by the American National Standards Institute in conjunction with the Industrial Truck Standards Development Foundation.
The first standard for powered industrial trucks took effect in 1971, based on industry consensus standards in 1969. Since then, national consensus standards have been updated several times.

FIFRA Stakeholders: Update to How to Respond to an Enforcement Action or Inquiry
Contrary to popular opinion, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) enforcement activity under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) has been trending upward over the last couple of years. As noted in our earlier advisory memorandum on enforcement activity under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), although most parties subject to TSCA inspections receive a “boilerplate” letter, FIFRA enforcement actions tend to be more heterogeneous. This memorandum provides guidance to FIFRA stakeholders on how to respond to a typical EPA FIFRA inspection letter. For more information, please read the full memorandum.
