IHMM Emeritus

Information About Emeritus Status at IHMM

Certificants who are no longer active in the environmental, health, and safety communities of practice may apply for Emeritus status, signifying they are retired or planning to retire.

Eligibility Requirements:

To qualify for the Emeritus designation, a certificant must:

  • Be in good standing (current on all annual fees at the time of application).
  • Have been recertified at least once before applying for Emeritus status.

Guidelines for Use:

  • The Emeritus designation can be used on personal stationery and personal cards, but it may not be used for commercial purposes involving the active practice of the [credential name], as the certificant is retired from professional service.
  • Once retired and granted Emeritus status, it is inappropriate to:
    • Use the [credential name] title without the “Emeritus” designation.
    • Use the “[credential name] Emeritus” designation while continuing to practice actively.

Reinstatement Option:

If a certificant with Emeritus status wishes to return to active [credential name] practice, they may request reinstatement within five years of retirement for a modest reinstatement fee.

Purpose of Emeritus Designation:

The Emeritus designation allows retired credential holders to maintain a formal connection to their professional identity while stepping away from active practice. We encourage you to remain engaged with our communities of practice by volunteering on committees and other activities as your time permits.

Application Fee:

Eligible certificants may transition to the lifetime Emeritus designation for a one-time fee of $75, once approved.
