    IHMM Degree Requirements

    • A graduate of an IHMM ASHM Committee approved college or university, accredited by a member organization of the Council on Higher Education Accreditation, in which the degree identifies the graduate as having earned a baccalaureate (B), master (M), or doctorial (D) degree in safety, or safety-related degrees as approved by the IHMM ASHM Committee

    • The degree must clearly be on the transcripts.

    • At the bachelor level the major must have a minimum of thirty-six semester hours of safety/ approved degree-specific courses (twelve semester hours at the graduate degree level).

    • The degree (bachelor) must include a minimum of nine semester hours of management exclusive of the courses or incorporated within the safety/safety related courses (advanced degree program management studies will be evaluated for approval based on a review of the program to account for the total credit hours required for completion).

    We affirm that our safety/ safety-related degree requirements meet those set above by the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management and that all those graduating from our institution with a safety/ safety-related degree will have satisfied the requirements of the degree and those established by the Institute

    Role of IHMM

    • Owns and operates the ASHM credential, logo, and program

    • Provide for graduate enrollment and collection of the annual certification maintenance fee fee [$170], waiving the [$185] application fee for those applying within 6 months of graduation

    • Provide the IHMM Certificant Manual for each ASHM

    • Provide the IHMM ASHM Welcome Packet Upon Passing the IHMM Examination

    • Provide the ASHM Community on IHMM’s Collaboration Platform including the Mentor Match feature that allows ASHMs to connect with fully accredited CSHMs for guidance

    • Provide ASHMs with IHMM electronic newsletters as frequently as are published

    Role of the School

    • Register with the IHMM ASHM program [this form]

    • Provide regular, consistent promotion of the ASHM to students in the disciplines outlined as desirable for ASHMs

    • Allow IHMM to publish the school’s information on this form and use the school’s logo in the IHMM ASHM program

    Authorization from an authorized official of the school agreeing to the Terms and Conditions as outlined in this Registration Form.

    Directions: Please provide catalog copy validating (as appropriate) the following:

    1. The degree program is accredited by a member organization of the Council on Higher Education Accreditation, in which the degree identifies the graduate as having earned a baccalaureate (B), master (M), or doctorial (D) degree in safety or safety-related degree as approved by the IHMM ASHM Committee (copy of catalog page acceptable)

    2. The degree must clearly identify safety or safety-related degree as approved by the IHMM ASHM Committee in its title (as shown in the catalog) (copy of catalog page acceptable)

    3. At the bachelor level, the major must have a minimum of thirty-six semester hours of safety/ approved degree-specific courses (twelve semester hours at the graduate degree level) (as shown in the catalog) (catalog copy of the page(s) acceptable)

    4. The degree (bachelor) must include a minimum of nine semester hours of management exclusive of the courses or incorporated within the safety/safety related courses (advanced degree program management studies will be evaluated for approval based on a review of the program to account for the total credit hours required for completion).

    Those degree programs meeting the aforementioned requirements will receive a letter of confirmation and their degree(s) and institution will be posted on the Institute website (www.ihmm.org).

    If more than one degree is being applied for, separate applications must be made for each degree.

    After applications are approved, any changes in the approved degrees must be resubmitted to remain on the approved degree program list.
