Each year IHMM is proud to recognize the outstanding achievements and distinction of the CSHM, CSMP, or ASHM who has made a worthy contribution to the communities of practice and the profession. These honorees represent the very best in an uncompromising commitment to the health and safety of their workplaces and employees and, as such, represent the very best in IHMM’s environment, health and safety credentials.

The 2021 winner of the IHMM Excellence in EHS Management Award is Daniel S. Blankfeld, CSHM, CSMP, and Vice President of Safety at GIC Madison / CBG Building Company, Silver Spring, Maryland.

Dan serves on two IHMM committees as chairman, Professional Standards and Microcredential. He served previously on the ISHM board of directors as Vice Chair. Dan serves on the NFPA 241 Committee, previously chaired the DC metro ABC Safety Committee, and the DCMSA Safety Committee, served on the Montgomery County (MD) Volunteer Fire Rescue Association Board of Directors, and is an active professional member of the ASSP. Dan also currently serves as the Deputy Fire Chief of the Bethesda Fire Department.
