OSHA is issuing a final rule updating its personal protective equipment (PPE) standard for construction (29 CFR 1926.95(c)), to explicitly require that PPE fit properly. This revision aligns the language in the PPE standard for construction with the corresponding language in OSHA’s PPE standards for general industry and shipyards and affirms OSHA’s interpretation of its PPE standard for construction as requiring properly fitting PPE.
The rule will be effective 30 days after publication in the Federal Register. For more information, see the Federal Register Notice or OSHA’s PPE Safety and Health Topics Page.
Proper fitted please is standard and most companies have to issue for example the harness should be issued by a professional with actual field experience .
As a woman in construction properly fitting ppe is elusive. Even the boot vouchers that we get don’t allow us to purchase good boots because the only place we are allowed to use it only carries about 3 selections of women’s boots while men have isle after isle to choose a proper boot specific to the job they are doing. For most women the Safety gear is the biggest Safety hazard in the job.
