During the May 2022 Interested Parties (IP) Meeting, it was reported that PHMSA has submitted text to amend the Hazardous Materials Transportation Act (HMTA) that would increase the cap on annual hazmat registration fees from $3,000 to $15,000. Given that this may have a very significant impact on your operations, the IP Group is determining interest as to whether they should engage Capitol Hill and PHMSA on the topic.

Paul Rankin, President of RIPA and Chairman of the IP Group, drafted a memorandum explaining the issue and posing two questions:

  1. Does your association support or oppose the Administration’s request to increase the annual cap on the hazmat registration fees to $15K?
  2. Does your association support leaving the hazmat registration fee for small businesses at $250.00?

Please take a few moments to review the document here and answer the questions to the survey. Responses are requested by May 19, 2022
