The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing new federal emissions standards for light/medium duty and heavy duty vehicles which would avoid a projected 10 billion tons of CO2 emissions through 2055. The proposal is also projected to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles (EVs): EPA contends EVs could account for 67% of new light-duty vehicle sales and 46% of new medium-duty vehicle sales in model year 2032. Following publication in the Federal Register, comments due within 50 days for the heavy-duty vehicle proposal and within 60 days for the light/medium duty vehicle proposal.
