- PHMSA Safety Advisory Notice: DOT-111 Tank Cars in Flammable Liquid Service. The safety advisory re-emphasizes concerns with the survivability of DOT-111 tank cars and encourages tank car owners and shippers of flammable liquids to voluntarily upgrade their tank car fleets to the DOT-117 specification tank car, the newest and safest available tank car design authorized for flammable liquid service. The advisory also urges rail carriers to consider the risks inherent in the continued use of DOT-111 tank cars in flammable liquid service, and to take actions that could reduce the risks of hazardous material transportation by rail. - In Latest Work to Advance Rail and Hazmat Safety, USDOT Issues New Safety Advisory to Major Freight Railroads to Help Prevent Derailments. In the latest action to improve safety in communities across the country, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is calling on major freight railroads to review and update their placement of rail cars and locomotives. AGENCY: Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
ACTION: Notice of public meeting.
SUMMARY: This notice announces a meeting of the Lithium Battery Air Safety Advisory Committee (Committee).
DATES: The meeting will be held on April 20, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. EDT. Requests to attend the meeting must be sent by April 5, 2023, to the point of contact identified in the FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT section. Persons requesting to speak during the meeting must submit a written copy of their remarks to DOT by April 5, 2023. Requests to submit written materials to be reviewed during the meeting must be received no later than April 5, 2023.
