While Congress may be on Easter recess, make no mistake—things are heating up fast on Capitol Hill. Both the House and Senate are barreling toward a high-stakes summer showdown over budget and tax policy. And right in the thick of it, IHMM is making its voice heard.

In a razor-thin vote of 216–214, the House agreed to the Senate’s controversial budget resolution. Even self-described “budget hawks” backed the plan—despite projections it could balloon the national deficit by as much as $6 trillion. Why? They claim they received “ironclad” promises from Speaker Johnson, Senator Thune, and the White House that meaningful spending cuts would follow. Yet the Senate’s budget plan tells a different story: $5.8 trillion in new debt and just $4 billion in actual cuts. The numbers don’t lie—and the battle lines are drawn.

With top-line numbers now set, the real fight begins. How will Congress carve up the budget pie? What gets funded—and what doesn’t? That’s where IHMM’s leadership and coalition-building efforts matter most.

The House is taking the lead in crafting the massive budget reconciliation bill, loaded with Trump-era policies on border security, energy, and taxes. Committees are working through the recess, racing toward a May 9 deadline to deliver their legislative pieces. Leadership is eyeing Memorial Day to have a final bill on President Trump’s desk.

But here’s the kicker: With an enormous gap between revenue and spending, lawmakers are hunting for new revenue sources—and nonprofits are on the radar. See Ways and Means Committee Ideas Here

That’s why IHMM joined 99 powerhouse organizations nationwide to launch the Community Impact Coalition, a forceful response to any attempt to tax nonprofit organizations like ours.

When tax reform gets moving in Washington, unexpected proposals fly. IHMM is not just reacting—we’re leading. We’re defending the vital role nonprofits play in workforce development, environmental safety, and public health, and standing up for every professional we serve.

The coming months will shape the future. And IHMM is at the table, not on the sidelines.
